Autism and ADHD
Autism and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) are neurodevelopmental disorders that can have overlapping symptoms but are distinct conditions. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), these conditions are often understood within the framework of imbalances in the body's Qi (energy) and organ systems. Because they two can share self-help strategies, I put they two together in this page.
For Autism:
TCM views autism as a complex disorder that involves imbalances in multiple systems, including the nervous system, digestive system, and overall Qi circulation. The approach in TCM focuses on restoring balance, harmonizing Qi flow, and nourishing the affected organs. Common patterns associated with autism in TCM include Qi and Blood stagnation, phlegm-dampness accumulation, and Spleen and Stomach imbalances.
For ADHD:
TCM sees ADHD as a condition characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, and difficulties with focus and attention. It is often associated with imbalances in the Liver Qi, Spleen-Stomach deficiency, and Heart-Kidney disharmony.
Tapping the Gallbladder Meridian
Tapping the Gallbladder Meridian can be beneficial for reducing anxiety and stress. It helps ADHD too. I put it in this page partly because some children with autism refuse body touch. You can try using massage Hammer instead.
Tapping the Gallbladder Meridian is a traditional self-massage technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that aims to stimulate and balance the flow of energy along the Gallbladder Meridian, promoting relaxation and overall well-being.
Don't panic. You don't need to know where the gallbladder meridian is. Just tapping outer of legs would be helpful.
Of course you can try hand massage, gently bumping "T" shape area on back as well.
